Uses :

Picrotoxin is a strong CNS stimulant. It is used intravenously as antidote in
barbiturate poisoning.

Hops

Hops consists of the dried strobiles of the pistillate plants of Humulus
lupulus family Cannabinaceae.
Strobile : It is derived from a scaly inflorescence, in the axile of each scale
there may be one or two acheneal fruits.
Constituents :

1- Essential oil: (0.3-1.0%) contains mainly terpenes such as humulene and
β-amyrene.
2- Resin consists mainly of humulone and humulol which are responsible for
the bitterness of Hops.

Uses :
1- Sedative and promote sleep.
2- Stomachic and improve appetite.
3- In manufacture of beer and wine.
4- Bacteriostatic (V.O).

Black pepper

Dried unripe fruits of pipper nigrum family piperaceae.

Constituents : 1-2% Volatile oil and 5-9% alkaloids (piperine).
Uses : Aromatic spicy, carminative, stomachic and antihepatotoxic in liver

disorders.
