Uses

operative vomiting, spastic constipation and spasm of the urinary tract.

Pharmacology and precautions of solanaceous tropane alkaloids

       • Atropine, hyoscyamine and scopolamine are anti-cholinergic agents.
       • They Increase heart rate (by depression of the vagus nerve) so they are

contra-indicated in patients suffering from hypertension. Also not
           preferably concomitantly taken with Anti-cholinergics,
           sympathomimetics (ex: anti-depressents)
       • Act as antispasmodic on various smooth muscles (ureter, bladder and
intestine) thus, are contra-indicated in patients with benign prostatic
           hypertrophy and paralytic ileus.
       • They cause mydriasis, so contra-indicated in acute glaucoma.
