• It is a measure of the content of the particles which
resist the effect of dilute mineral acids and dilute alkali
such as Sclerieds, Vessels and Fibers.
• The crude fiber can be employed quantitatively to assay:
• 1. the crude fiber contents of food and animal
feedstuffs.
• 2. to detect excess of certain lignified elements in
powdered drugs. e.g. clove stalk in clove.
• 3. to detect adulteration with olive stones, coconut
shells.
