• It is a measure of the content of the particles which resist the
effect of dilute mineral acids and dilute alkali such as Sclerieds,
Vessels and Fibers.
• The detection of adulterants as olive stones, coconut shells is
much more facilitated by preparing the crude fiber, which
concentrate the resistant parts of the adulterants in a small
amount of tissues.
• It is particularly useful for rhizomes such as Ginger which contain
relatively large amounts of oleoresin and starch.
