Determination of chlorides
• Solution after combustion + ferric ammonium sulphate
+ mercuric thiocyanate and allow to stand for 10
minutes.
• This method is based on the displacement of
thiocyanate ion from mercuric thiocyanate by chloride
ion, in the presence of ferric ion.
• A highly coloured ferric thiocyanate complex is formed.
