(German Chamomile)
Definition:
Dried capitula of Matricaria recutita L. (Chamomilla recutita
(L.) Rauschert), family Asteraceae.
Content:
—blue essential oil: minimum 4 ml/kg (dried drug),
—total apigenin 7-glucoside (C21H20O10): minimum 0.25 per cent
(dried drug).
Macroscopic Characters:
Capitulum: Almost hemispherical, 6 to 10 mm in diameter having
Whitish or buff colour.
Odour: Aromatic, characteristic
Taste: bitter
Receptacle (Axis): It is elongated, conical and hollow.
Involucre: of 2 to 3 rows of overlapping bracts with membranous
wings and hairy thick parts
Distribution of flowers: 12 to 20 marginal ligulate florets and
numerous tubular florets.
