Ligulate Florets:
Kind: zygomorphic, incomplete, pistillate sessile florets.
Calyx: absent.
Corolla: Sympetalous, whitish, strap-like, with a short tube at the
base. It shows three rounded teeth at apex, the middle one is more
protruding.
Androecium: Absent
Gynaecium: Syncarpous formed of two carpels.
Ovary: Small, ovoid, smooth, unilocular with one basal ovule.
Style: Long, thread-like, brown.
Stigma: bifid.
Tubular Florets:
Kind: mostly actinomorphic, incomplete, hermaphrodite, sessile
florets.
Calyx: absent.
Corolla: Epigynous, sympetalous, and formed of five lobes.
Androecium: of five stamens, syngenesious epipetalous stamens.
Gynaecium: similar to that of the ligulate florets.
Microscopic Characters:
The Bract:
Epidermis; Polygonal, elongated thin - walled cells with striated
cuticle and showing compositous glandular hairs.
Mesophyll; traversed by single vascular strand and accompanied
with secretion duct.
