Anthers:
Fibrous layer: cells with spiral lignified thickenings, appearing
beaded in surface view.
Pollen grains: spherical, have a diameter of about 30 µm with, 3
germinal pores, 3 germ furrows and spiny exine.
Identification of German chamomile powder:
Physical characters:
It is yellowish brown to greenish-yellow with pleasant
aromatic odour and slight bitter taste.
Microscopic characters:
1- Numerous spherical spiny pollen grains with three
germinal pores and three germ furrows measuring 30
µm in diameter.
2- Fragments of the fibrous layer of the anther formed of cells
with spiral lignified thickenings appearing as polygonal
beaded cells.
3- Fragments of the outer epidermis of corolla showing
polygonal cells with striated cuticle, wavy anticlinal walls and
bearing glandular hairs of Compositae type (biseriate short
stalk and biseriate two to four cells head, around the head the
cuticle is raised to form a bladder like covering).
4- Fragment of the inner epidermis of corolla showing polygonal
papillosed cells.
