Constituents:
1- German chamomile flower heads yield volatile oil 0.24 to
1.9% of fresh plant tissue. The major constituents of German
chamomile oil are terpene hydrocarbons oxygenatd terpenes
and esters of angelic and tiglic acids.
Some chemical constituents of German chamomile oil (mg/100 ml
oil)
-Bisabolol 6.0%
-Bisabolol oxide 7.8%
-Bisabolol oxide 35.6%
Chamazulene 6.0%
Spathulenol 1.2%
Farnesene 12.0%
Tiglic acid esters
Angelic acid esters
The essential oil of German chamomile has been recognized as
safe by U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), The Council of
Europe and The Flavoring Extract Manufacture’s Association.
Chamazulene is formed during distillation or extraction the oil from
natural plant precursor matricarin.
