Roman Chamomile has pleasant strong aromatic odour
and bitter taste.
Identification of Roman Chomomile:
1- Microscopically: as in German Chamomile (Presence of non
glandular hair).
2- Thin Layer chromatography :
German chamomile powder 0.1 mg was extracted with 2 ml
absolute alcohol.
Adsorbent: cellulose
Solvent system: butanol: Galacial acetic : water (40:10:50).
Reference: mixture of caffeic acid and rutin.
Spray reagent: diphenylboric acid-ethanolamine reagent.
Constituents:
Roman chamomile yields volatile oil, approximately 1.75% of
plant fresh weight. The Roman chamomile oil resembles that of
German chamomile but it has high content of esters of angelic and
tiglic acids. Chamazulene is formed from matricarin
precursorduring distillation.
Uses:
As German chamomile.
