❑ Insoluble substances (e.g. very small particles, precipitates).
❑ Substances that are precipitated in the mobile phase.
❑ Substances that irreversibly adsorb to the packing material

(Sample cleaning).
❑ Substances that dissolve, or chemically react, with the

packing material (Derivatization).
