(2) 1, 10-phenanthroline method :
For total iron content i.e. inorganic Fe2+ and Fe3+ as well
as colloidal and suspended Fe3+.
❖Reagent : 1, 10-phenanthroline and thioglycollate
buffer.
The thioglycollate buffer reduces Fe3+ to Fe2+ and
simultaneously adjusts the pH to 3.7. Fe2+ reacts with
1, 10-phenanthroline to form a red-orange complex.
