Ophthalmic DD: requirements

• Ophthalmic preparations must be sterilized for safe use.
• Ocular infections are extremely dangerous and can rapidly lead to the

loss of vision.
• Formulations are preferably sterilized in their final containers by

autoclaving. Alternatively, filtration can be used (particulates!)
• All primary packaging components must be sterile (gas or irradiation).
