                      Liquid preparations

  Suspensions
  • Requirements:
➢ Suspended particles must be finely subdivided, usually micronized

(<10 μm) to avoid reflex tearing (drainage!), to minimize eye irritation.
➢ Suspended particles must not associate into larger particles upon

storage and must be easily and uniformly redistributed by gentle
shaking of the container prior to use to ensure uniform dose
       administration.

  Ophthalmic DD: dosage forms

                      Liquid preparations

  Mucoadhesive liquid preparations:
   • They contain mucoadhesive polymers that

attach to the mucin coat that covers the
conjunctiva and cornea via electrostatic, covalent
       and hydrogen interactions
   • They increase the contact time of topical
ophthalmic solutions with the ocular surface.
