Suspensions
• Requirements:
➢ Suspended particles must be finely subdivided, usually micronized
(<10 μm) to avoid reflex tearing (drainage!), to minimize eye irritation.
➢ Suspended particles must not associate into larger particles upon
storage and must be easily and uniformly redistributed by gentle
shaking of the container prior to use to ensure uniform dose
administration.

Mucoadhesive liquid preparations:
• They contain mucoadhesive polymers that
attach to the mucin coat that covers the
conjunctiva and cornea via electrostatic, covalent
and hydrogen interactions
• They increase the contact time of topical
ophthalmic solutions with the ocular surface.
