lie beneath the SC layer
• Nearly all drugs can be administered via IM route

• Location:
Most commonly: the buttock (gluteal),
lateral thigh (vastus lateralis) or
shoulder/upper arm (deltoid) muscles.
• Volume:
Ranges from 0.5–2 mL and up to 4
mL (in divided doses to be given in
the gluteal region).
