The adult nasal cavity has about a 20-mL capacity, with a large surface area
(about 180 cm2) for drug absorption afforded by the microvilli along the
pseudostratified columnar epithelial cells of the nasal mucosa .
The nasal tissue is highly vascularized, providing an attractive site for rapid
    and efficient systemic absorption.

intranasal bioavailability has been comparable to that of injections for some
    peptides and small molecular compounds

However, bioavailability decreases as the molecular weight of a compound
increases, and for proteins composed of more than 27 amino acids
bioavailability may be low (how to solve ..next?)

Various pharmaceutic techniques and formulation adjuncts, such as surface-
active agents, have been shown to enhance nasal absorption of large
    molecules

Penetration of the BBB through via olfactory and trigeminal
cellular internalization, opening nerve pathways can pass the BBB,
the BBB, and bypassing the BBB unlike parenterally administered

            through intranasal molecules.

Both polymeric and lipid-based nanocarriers can
protect the active substance from enzymatic

degradation and provide greater retention time on the
mucosal surface, which can lead to increased drug
concentration in the region of interest and facilitate
drug delivery through the nasal mucosa (how..next )
