Advantages of pulmonary drug
delivery

• Relatively easy and convenient drug administration, low invasiveness
(selective, quick and painless )

• Local for treating pulmonary conditions.
• Systemic circulation through the alveoli

– Some drugs are not available as tablets as they are not absorbed orally,
such as sodium cromoglycate( avoidance of first pass effect and
degradation in GIT).

• Lipid soluble molecules are absorbed quickly (e.g bronchodilators,
corticosteroids, AB , antifungals.)

• Offer a route of administration for Macromolecules (enzymes and insulin)
