In some cases, the side chain may be C1 or C2 to give structure (C6 - C1)
or (C6 - C2), respectively.

Methods for separation of Terpenes Hydrocarbons:

1- Fractional distillation.
2- Preparation of crystalline additive products: (Addition on double
bond):
Hydrocarbons + HCl or HBr, NOCI, NOBr, N2O3 and N2O4 →
Halogenated, Nitrosochloride, Nitrosobromide, Nitrosite and Nitrosate
derivatives, respectively.

   • These crystalline adducts obtained are separated and decomposed
       giving the pure hydrocarbon.

   • The crystalline adducts are very important in the identification as it
       affords crystalline material which could be compared with an
       authentic specimen (m.p.).
