Uses: As precursors of sylvestrene and carvestrene.
α- Pinene
It is an example of bicylic monoterpene hydrocarbon,
Class II: (6 + 4 membered ring).
Source:
Very widely distributed in nature, being found in most volatile oils of the
Coniferae. It is the main constituent of turpentine oil.
Uses:
α-pinene is used as starting material for different synthetically prepared
compounds: Borneol, camphor and α- terpineol.
