Azulene is a non - benzenoid aromatic compound. The natural azulenes
are colored which vary in color from blue to violet or even green.
Guaiazulene
Blue needles, m.p. 31°C
Source: Geranium oil.
- Dehydrogenation of V. O. of guaiacum.
Vitavazulene
Violet needles, m.p. 33°C.
Source: Heating vetiver oil with sulphur.
Chamaz
ulene
Source: Chamomile oil (blue colored).
Uses: Chamazulene contribute to the in vivo
anti-inflammatory activity of chamomile,
and it has additional antioxidative effects.
