    - Other class consists of the enzymatic reactions that utilize the energy from the

         light reaction to fix carbon dioxide into sugar. These are referred to as the dark
         reactions this can be summarized as follows:

2 H 2O + CO2 + light chlorophyII→ (CH 2O) + H 2O + O2

 Through the above-mentioned photosynthetic process various monosaccharides
    are produced, via phosphorylated sugars e.g. Glucose-6-phosphate and fructose-
    6-phosphate. The latter monosaccharide phosphates are then utilized by the plant
    cell either as energy or as a building unit to give disaccharides and
    polysaccharides ... etc.

Configuration:
 The open chain structures of sugars was proposed by Fisher in 1880's,

    while in 1926 Howarth proposed the cyclic structure (pyranose and furanose
    rings).
