happy for that. Jahangir, who had executed Guru Arjan Dev Ji, was
fearful that Guru Hargobind might seek revenge for his father's arrest,
torture and death. Chandu and Prithi Chand, Guru’s Taiya continued to fill
Jahangir with suspicions that Guru Ji was raising an army to attack the
Mughal army. This angered Jahangir. He ordered that Guru Hargobind Ji
be imprisoned at Gwalior Fort, where many other princes and kings were
imprisoned. Guru Ji was kept there for more than a year.
Guru Hargobind Ji had to fight a few battles with Mughals. Most of the
battles were fought with the armies of Jahangir’s son, Shah Jahan who
was not a kind ruler. Guru Hargobind Ji’s Sikhs won all of them.
He had five sons and one daughter. One of his sons, Tegh Bahadur Ji
would become our ninth Guru.

On March 3 , 1644, Guru Ji called his Sikhs and passed on Guruship to his
grandson HarRai Sahib Ji in their presence. The very same evening he
passed away. Guru Hargobind Sahib was our Sixth Guru from 1606 to 1644.
