Lesson 14: Sri Guru Harkrishan Ji
th
Harkrishan Ji was born on July 7 , 1656 at Kiratpur, in Punjab. He was the
son of Guru HarRai Ji and Mata Kishan Ji. He was the youngest of all Sikh
Gurus. He was barely 5 years old when he became the eighth Guru. You
know, every time we do Ardas, we remember Guru Harkrishan Ji. We say
“Sri HarKrishan Dhiaa-eh,
Jis Dithay Sab Dukh Ja-ye”.
Meditate on the name of Guru Harkrishan Ji,
because by seeing Him, all the pain vanishes and all the diseases are cured.
The Sakhi behind this Gurbani line is about the time when Guru HarKrishan
Ji went to Delhi at the invitation of a Sikh, Raja Jai Singh and stayed at his
bungalow. People were dying from diseases such as cholera and smallpox. To
heal the sick, Guru Ji got Chubachcha (pond) constructed outside his room.
Anyone who took Amrit water from it was cured. Gurdwara Bangla Sahib
stands at this site. Guru Ji also went around the city visiting and curing
people. Whoever saw Guru Ji and got His blessing, was cured of their
illness.
That is why we still remember Guru Ji by saying “ Sri HarKrishan Dhia-e-ay,
Jis Dithay Sab Dukh Ja-ye.”
Guru Harkrishan Ji was our Eighth Guru from 1661 to 1664.
