attempt to pay an unfair fine. And Guru Arjan Dev Ji refused to remove

any Gurbani line from Adi Granth.

This refusal from Guru Ji made Jahangir furious. Guru Arjan Dev Ji was

imprisoned and tortured. His body was exposed in the scorching heat of the

sun. For his execution, Guru Ji was made to sit on the red-hot iron plate

(qvI); hot sand was poured over his head; and he was then asked to sit in a

pot of boiling hot water. To make him suffer even more, the cruel

executioner took Guru Ji to the river and told him to jump in cold water.
Guru Ji’s body could take it no more.

Guru accepted all that was happening as God's will. On May 30 , 1606, Guru
Arjan merged with Waheguru.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji was the first martyr Sikh Guru. He gave up his life in
respect of Gurbani. Guru Arjan Dev was the Fifth Guru from 1581 to 1606.
