Guru Nanak Dev Ji renamed him Angad (part of the body). Guru Nanak Dev
Ji asked Baba Budha Ji to put a saffron mark of Guruship on his head. He
became our second Guru on September 7, 1539.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji advised him to settle in Khadur Sahib. After Guru Nanak
Dev Ji merged with Waheguru on September 22, 1539, Guru Angad Dev Ji
visited many important places where Guru Nanak Dev Ji had gone. The
period of his Guruship was the most significant one for the Sikh religion.
The Sikh community moved from having a founder to a successor. That
meant that Guru Nanak’s Sikhi would continue for the next generation.
During this phase, he established many new centers of Sikhism. Sikhism
became an important religious tradition. His wife Mata Khivi Ji also played a
big role in the tradition of Langar. She cooked Langar herself and served to
Sangat. She was famous for her delicious Kheer. Mata Khivi is even
mentioned in Sri Guru Granth Sahib
