Lesson 2: Project Based Learning
Most of the learning happens when we interact with the text actively. As
you read any text and answer comprehension questions and discuss your
thoughts, you learn even more.
We develop even deeper understanding when we analyze how the learning
applies to our daily lives. This year, you will conduct research on a few
topics and create products you can share with others. You will research 5
topics and produce a report on them. You may write an essay, a poem, make
a poster, or a power point to present in your class. This activity will also
develop public speaking skills in you.
The four mandatory topics that you will work on are:
1. Sikh Identity: this report will be presented to you regular school as well
as in the school in Gurdwara. It can be related to Visakhi.
2. Any one principle of Sikhism- Sikh identity, the 5 Ks, lessons we learn
from Guru Ji’s life, your favorite Shabad and how you live it etc.
3. A research project on Guru Nanak-go beyond the biography. Focus on a
message from his life that is relevant to you.
4. Diwali- Bandhi Chhod Divas
5. You may choose any other topic of your choice.

Be creative. Learn and enjoy your journey to becoming a well-informed Sikh
and a global citizen. You will be able to better understand others if you
understand your own roots, heritage, principles and perspectives first.
