a - Ullu Mask
A. Show the children a sample of the mask and ask them what animal it is.
B. Repeat the word “ullu” several times, emphasizing the beginning ooda sound.
Ask the students to share one interesting fact about the owl. Encourage them
to speak in Punjabi. If they are unable, provide translations and ask them to
repeat key words.
C. Provide clear directions on how to assemble the ullu mask, clarifying which
part may need parent/teacher help if necessary. Allow the children to create
their own ullu mask!
Materials:
- Print out of the Ullu mask (provided in student handbook)
- Large Popsicle Stick
- Feathers
- Crayons
- Glue or Tape
- Scissors
Method:
1. Cut around the outside edge of the mask.
2. Cut out the eyeholes of the mask.
3. Glue or tape the popsicle stick to the back of the mask.
4. Decorate the front of the mask with crayons and feathers.
