Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gurpurab Celebration
Dedicate the entire class to the celebration of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Gurpurab.
This presents a wonderful opportunity to educate the students on the 3 Golden
Rules (Naam Japna, Vand Chakna, Kirath Karna) and how these principles can
be implemented at any age.
A. In honor of Gurpurab, we suggest that students prepare and perform the
following shabads and songs, either for their peers or the Gurdwara sangat:
• Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Song
• Sat Nam Ji Song
• The Guru Song
• Raakhaa Eaek Hamaaraa Suaamee
B. Begin the class with circle time, introducing why the day is special. You may
share the following discussion points:
- Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in 1469, in place called Talwandi.
- His father’s name was Mehta Kalu and mother’s name was Mata Tripta
Ji.
- He had an older sister named Bebe Nanaki, who loved him ver much.
- He taught us that we should always follow 3 Golden Rules. List each one
individually and follow with a discussion, asking for examples:
1. Nam Japna - Remember Vaheguru. Ask the students how they
remember Vaheguru every day.
2. Vand Chakna - Share with others. Ask the children how they share.
They may offer that they share their toys with others.
3. Kirath Karna - Work hard. How do they work hard everyday?
Answers may include cleaning room, helping parents, doing their
school work.
