Glasgow Coffee Festival 2023
Assessing our Environmental Impact
Glasgow Coffee Festival is an annual
celebration of Scottish specialty coffee, held in
mid May at The Briggait in Glasgow.
The weekend attracts the coffee community
across Scotland and beyond, coming together for
a weekend of incredible specialty coffee, talks
from industry professionals across the coffee
supply chain, and tastings from some of the
worlds best coffee importers.
The festival, first held in 2014, was born out of a
passion for the Scottish coffee industry, with the
goal to celebrate everything the Scottish coffee
industry has to offer. This year’s festival was our
biggest yet, with over 2000 attendees across the
full weekend.

In 2018 we shook up the industry by becoming
the first coffee festival in the world to ditch single-
use cups, encouraging attendees to bring their
own cup or borrow one from our partners,
KeepCup.
This year a staggering 87.5% of attendees
brought their own cup along to the festival, saving
87.5% of attendees brought their own cup an estimated 14,800 single-use cups from landfill
in the process. This in-turn diverted an estimated
545.29kg of carbon dioxide, as well as saving an
estimated 48.84kg of plastic waste.

It is encouraging to see other coffee festivals
across the UK adopt the single-use cup free
approach. We hope to see more coffee festivals
join the push against single-use cups in the future.
