Her production delves deeply into Jharkhand’s trib-
al culture, celebrates people’s unique relationship
with nature and honours it’s pristine music tradi-
tions. Singi Dei, a tribal princess, whose existence
is overlooked by historians has been kept alive in
Jharkhand’s popular culture through folk lore. Her
fabled resistance against foreign in-vaders is still
commemorated with ‘Jani-Shikar’, a event orga-
nized every twelve years where Oraon women of
Jharkhand dress up as men and reenact Singi Dei’s
valour.
