FRESH FRUIT
Within Reach
Article and Photos by Maggie Ramos
Walking outside and reaching up to pick a fresh piece of fruit
is mostly always a joyful experience. It’s also great to be able to sit
under a fresh fruit tree that provides shade in the midst of heat waves
or during nice spring days and evenings. There is no need to go far
to enjoy a peaceful afternoon and savor fresh guacamole made from
the fresh avocados you cared for in your own backyard, and if you
add a bowl of chips with freshly made salsa from the chili peppers
that were developed at your own site; it is an indescribable flavor to
all. Simply stepping outside to pick a few oranges at their best timing
to squeeze a fresh glass of orange juice. Per say, a combination of
blood oranges and Valencia oranges; I can already imagine the tangy
yet sweet refreshing flavor.
Perhaps you would love a bigger variation for a growing ground?
Delicious chirimoyas, apples, pomegranate, persimmons, fresh ju-
jubes, and exotic fruits such as litchis, passion fruit, and dragon fruit.
At Atkins Nursery and growing grounds, you may be mesmerized by
over four hundred varieties of trees of edible fruits. It’s always a joy to
step into their nursery and admire a pineapple developing in its own
palm or a papaya growing from seedling to fresh fruit.
Sometimes we may think we don’t have enough space in our
backyard for fruit trees. No problem there is always the option of
having dwarf trees in some varieties that you can maintain at a
reasonable height and size in a container for several years and take it
with you when you move. This can very well be an alternative for dec-
oration on your patio and enjoying the fresh nectars or citrus. Some
trees including dwarf trees may even carry more than one type of its
own kind of variation of fruit.
Atkins Nursery has over fifty years of experience growing trees,
plants, and vines. Victor is very knowledgeable of everything he has
available. The premises welcome everybody to take a tour, purchase
one tree or large quantities in a variation in sizes. There is also always
the option of stopping by to purchase fruit at reasonable prices and
or wholesale. I always feel welcomed, and it is no surprise to me
when Atkins sells out of avocados on festivity dates and celebrations.
If you don’t plan ahead for your delicious fresh guacamole to enjoy
during Super Bowl, more likely you will miss out!
Victor Gonzalez is the owner and CEO of Atkins Nursery and can best
direct you when it comes to planting and growing trees. He can provide
