Honour……. When I think of my grandfather the word that comes to mind is
honour. Whether it be honour in his work, his principles, his values and behaviour or the
honour that he showed for his country , organisation etc. It was the essence of his being.
In my life I have learnt the value of patriotism and loyalty from him. The honour and respect
he showed in life for all things/people great and small, I constantly try to imbibe in my own
life. I miss you tha-tha but know that you are always cheering for me.

Selfless……….. I remember the days prior to Tha Tha’s passing and the
unfortunate fall that occurred as a result of our dog Maurice who was only young then, but
nevertheless jumped on him causing him to fall to the floor. All of us around were so
concerned of the fracture and pain that Tha Tha had endured that was clearly seen to the
eye. The first thing he said when he hit the floor was: ‘No one hurt the dog, don’t touch him –
he didn’t know better’. That pretty much sums up the person he was, a selfless, kind and
loving human being and I have learnt so much from him in that respect.
I have learnt that good deeds - no matter what the motivation, are enough to make you feel
better. Every day I go to work with a willingness to make someone’s life better – the selfish
motivation being that it makes me feel better at the end of the day as well. I have grown up
not needing accolades or validation for the work I do, and Tha Tha taught me the importance
of internal validation – something I achieve every day. Making a small change in an
individual’s life gives me purpose. I will never forget the life knowledge that he imparted me.
