Quoin Rock 1983 6
Coordinates: 34.7867 S; 19.6670 E 1984 11
Description: A barren rock c. 2.4 km east of Quoin Point 1987 12
and c. 1 ha in size that supports a herd of seals. African
Penguins and Great White Pelicans bred at the rock in the 1995 50
late 19th century and a few of both species continued to 2018 0 0
nest there until 1902, when they were ousted from it by 2019 0
seals (Rand 1963). Seal pups were recorded at Quoin 2 km west of Aasfontein
Rock in 1908 (Rand 1963). Bank Cormorants nested on Coordinates: 34.7671 S; 19.8067 E

Five metric tons of pelican guano were removed from Species and numbers breeding: White-breasted and
Quoin Rock in 1900 (Tom et al. 2024). Guano was collect- Crowned cormorants bred at this rock in 1981 but have not

Conservation status: It was gazetted as the Quoin Rock
Provincial Nature Reserve in 1988 (Province of the Cape White-breasted Crowned
of Good Hope 1988) and is administered by CapeNature. Year Cormorant Cormorant
