Cape Gannets breed at the east of the island. Roseate Year Penguin Gannet Gull
Terns nest in low-lying vegetation. The island has a jetty, 1991 3194 62960

Recent attempts have been made to prevent Kelp Gulls 1993 2293 72150
from breeding at the island and to reduce their numbers to 1994 72000

There were 12 records of Australasian Gannet (Morus 1996
serrator) at Bird Island, Algoa Bay, between 1990 and 2020 1997 1621 70130

Seabird guano was collected at Bird Island in Algoa 1998 60970
Bay in 84 years between 1897 and 1998, the total quantity 1999 3883
