• When an NK cell recognizes unhealthy or virus infected cells, it releases perforin
onto the target cell surface to create a pore
• Cytotoxins are then released, enter the target cell via a perforin pore, and induce
apoptosis
Apoptosis: A form of cell death in which a programmed sequence of events leads to
the elimination of cells without releasing harmful substances into the surrounding area.
