General Microbiology & Immunology (PM 401) second level Semester 4 2024/2025

Forms:

1. Agar plate: used for separation and

isolation of pure colonies

2. Agar slant: used for short storage of

bacteria 3-6 weeks

3. Deep agar: used for prolonged storage of

bacteria 6 months

Gelatin media:
Composition: It is composed of 10-15 % gelatin in nutrient broth and

sterilized in open autoclave for 20-30 mins for 3 successive days

Uses: used to test proteolytic organism (gelatin hydrolysis test)

2. 2- Enriched media

This media requires the addition of other substances like blood, egg, or

serum to encourage the growth of fastidious microbes

• Types:
➢ Blood agar

➢ Chocolate agar
➢ Lofflers serum
➢ Lowenstein Jensen medium
