Robertson Cocked meat medium
• Use: Cultivation of anaerobic microorganisms, especially Clostridium species.
• Composition it contains pieces of fat-free minced cooked meat of ox heart and
nutrient broth.
• Principle: Cooked Meat Medium provides a favorable
environment for the growth of anaerobes since the muscle protein
in the heart tissue granules is a source of amino acids and other
nutrients. The muscle tissue also provides reducing substances,
particularly glutathione. The sulfhydryl groups, which exert the
reducing effect, are more available in denatured protein; therefore,
the meat particles are cooked for use in the medium.
6- Media for cultivation of yeast and fungi
Fluid Sabouraud’s media
• Composition: glucose, pepton and water
The pH is 5.6 acidic pH. The acidic pH will favor the growth of fungi.
• Use - Sterility testing of biological specimens
- Cultivation of yeast and fungi
The high concentration of sugar and the acidic pH of the medium permit selectivity
of fungi
• Color: Yellowish brown fluid media
• The media incubated at 25 c for 10 days.,
