For the first time in recent memory, Newfound Regional High School will be honoring Julia Huckins from New Hamp- ton as Valedictorian for the upcoming Class of 2022 grad- uation, along with three Salu- tatorians, Elsa McConologue of Bristol, Cassie Zick of Alex- andria, and Lindsey Lacasse of New Hampton who all three tied in their grade point averages this year.
From academics and student government to athletics and ex- tracurricular activities, all four young women have made a last- ing and positive impact on their school and community.

  Walk, Run or Ruck with Hidden Battles 5/21

There are good people in this world who don’t let the struggles that many veterans face go unnoticed, and Scott Hyder is one of them. Hyder is a Disabled Veteran, having served ten years in the United States Army as a Combat En- gineer. With the annual 22 For The 22 event coming up May 21st, I was lucky to sit down with him and chat more about the event and the Hidden Bat- tles Organization.
Scott shared his story about how the Hidden Battles pro- gram came to be and how the 22 For The 22 event formed. After losing his brother, Nick, to suicide, Hyder wanted to help out as well as raise aware- ness of the issue of suicide among vets, so he began work- ing with a local suicide preven- tion and awareness team. He was a member of Team For- ever Young and participated in various Out of the Darkness walks sponsored by The Amer-
ican Foundation for Suicide Prevention. With participat- ing with Team Forever and speaking publicly about suicide and those who are struggling, Hyder continued on with his journey of raising awareness.
Hyder believes that “Veter- ans, Police Officers, and Fire Fighters need more. As a com-
munity of defenders, we need a common ground to speak about what is tearing apart the hearts and minds of these heroes. A place where we can speak freely with other like- minded professionals about the daily toll these professions take on our minds, our souls, and our family lives.”
With Hyder’s own personal struggles from the trauma of war, he found that rucking helped him. Rucking is walking with a loaded backpack. People in the military will hike with a loaded backpack filled with
