Suggested procedures for long-term vacancy

Cover toilet with plastic wrap. Shut off water to toilet.
Shut off water valves under sinks.
Turn off water heater at breaker box.
Turn off water supply at the outside faucet. For peace of mind, remove the handle and place
in park model.
When possible, disconnect power and water supply and place under park model. These may
be damaged during weed eating.
Check park model plug at the electrical pedestal for corrosion. Insure the connection is clean
and in good condition.
Unplug refrigerator, defrost and prop open, if applicable. Put baking soda in freezer and
refrigerator sections.
Open all closet and cabinet doors for ventilation.
Do not leave food in the park model.
Insure all pet food is removed or placed in sealed containers.
Mothballs placed under park model may deter pests. Treat for ants and roaches.
Put out bowls of kitty litter or charcoal to control moisture.
Unplug all TVs and other electronics. (We have severe electrical storms in the summer.)
Do not store items outside your park model. Items piled next to the park model may provide
nesting.
If you have a storage shed or casita, put all outdoor items in it, i.e., garden hoses, bicycles,
grills, patio furniture. This is important because of the possibility of storms and high winds
during the summer months. Grass grows quickly in the summer months and may cover items
that can damage mowing equipment or other property.
Trim plants and bushes back.
Check that gutters and downspouts are empty.
Insure fruit trees are trimmed back and all fruit is removed, if applicable.
Set thermostat, if applicable, to 65% and air conditioner to 80-85 degrees.
Insure shed and casita doors are locked.
Insure all garbage is disposed of.
Put land lines on vacation, if applicable.
Provide post office with mail change information.

Each home and home owner may have its own procedures and these are only suggestions.
Please share any others that work for you!

See you next season. Have a safe and happy summer!
