Garden Club is Growing

Last summer Bette Wessel and Mary Latimer were out for
a day of fun buying plants when the idea to start a garden
club bloomed. They talked it over with a few fellow
residents who also live in Llano Grande year-round and
decided it would be fun.

Each member brings varied knowledge and experience to Private club invitation tour to Jack Dyers'property.
the table from all walks of life, but most importantly, they
all share a love of plants.

The Garden Club meets on the first Thursday of the
month at 10am in Llano Hall. There are no membership
fees or dues. Sticking to the original idea of fun, the club
has participated in various tours in the area, hopped in the
car for impromptu treks to find a plant nursery, and
attended some local events about native plants and
wildlife.

A variety of speakers have come out to present to the Hill Top Gardens tour arranged by Llano Tour Desk.
group this season. The group has been pleasantly
surprised by what they have learned and by the generous
donations from Tad Dyers nursery of native plants for door
prizes at meetings.

You may have noticed a few potted plants around the park
bearing signs "Plants maintained by Llano Grande Garden
Club." The winter has been a little hard on the native
plants but with a little warm weather and the club's TLC,
they will bounce back. These plants are being taken care
of by volunteers in the Club but they are not part of the
Maintenance staff.

Recently, club members moved a deserted Madagascar
Palm into the Butterfly Garden located at Zoile Circle in
the West end of the park. A huge thank you to them (Mary
Latimer, Debi Alcorn, Gloria Buikema, Truman Olson and
Louie) for with getting this done.
