GLOBAL HEALTH PATHWAY

caring for patients across the Mexican border.
GLOBAL HEALTH DURING A PANDEMIC
At various times during the COVID-19 pandemic,
international travel restrictions were in place which
interrupted the international elective of this pathway.
However, international rotations are available once
again in addition to our local global health
opportunities right across the Mexican border
We also have created global health simulation
exercises. These multi-disciplinary simulation
workshops are conducted in collaboration with other
departments such as Emergency Medicine,
Reproductive Medicine and General Surgery)
involving scenarios centered on providing care in
limited-resource settings. In this scenario to the left,
Dr. Ian Drobish (UCSD Med Peds graduate 2022) is resuscitating a severely dehydrated
patient with cholera.
Residents learned how to:
❖ Constitute their own oral rehydration solution
❖ Calculate drip rate
❖ Place an I/O using chicken bones instead of an I/O device/needle
