WAYS TO BE INVOLVED PEDIATRICS

The Pediatrics Diversity Collaborative is led by a group of pediatrics and med-peds
residents who work closely with faculty and are dedicated to EDI recruitment, advocacy,
and education within pediatrics. Residents and faculty in The Collaborative have led
diversity journal clubs, health equity grand rounds, and have worked to incorporate EDI

topics into pediatric didactics. There are opportunities to apply for AAP grants for AAP
initiatives within this space. The pediatrics department and residency program are
committed to recruiting and retaining residents and faculty who reflect the demographics
of our diverse county and value resident input on this process.

Example of DEI initiatives/possibilities during residency:

The DEI SHIFT (a pun on “day shifts” worked on medicine) is an illuminating
podcast sponsored by the AMA/ACP and created and produced (during
med/peds residency) by two of our Med/Peds graduates and an IM faculty. This
podcast is meant to shift the focus on the way we think and talk about diversity,
equity, and inclusion in the medical field. The hope is that by having open
discussion on these topics, we will create a more diverse, equitable, and

accessible health care system.
