Discovering Staff Activity Interests
Tap into staff members’ special interests to motivate them to lead activities. Perhaps the person who loves quilting would lead a quilt group; the avid reader, a book club. A director of nursing I know simply makes root beer floats once a week as “her thing” with residents.
It could be part of the team’s routine
to discover the personal passions and interests of staff members, and how
they might share them in the life of the household. This is a very honoring way of asking for help in providing activities for householders. The best way to learn staff members’ interests and passions is to ask them. You can include questions on various forms for those new to your community, and you can ask all along the way. Better yet, honor new staff team members at community meetings and host a welcoming party for each – really get to know them!
