Unit (6) – Phonics

                                                  Syllables

                                                     Parent’s Guide

A syllable is a word part with one vowel sound. Some

words have more than one syllable. When a syllable has two

vowels next to each other, it is called a “Vowel Team Syllable”.

                                                   The Raccoon Rule

How do you know where to split the word/syllable?

When a word has a “Vowel Team”, treat the vowel team as

one sound. Then, split the word using the Rabbit, Tiger, Camel
                   or Turtle Rule.

                   Example:

raccoon = rac • coon remain = re • main
