Pleasant Words from the Gospel

looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves.
Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them
to the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples

picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left
over. The number of those who ate was about five thousand
men, besides women and children. (Matthew, 14:16-21)

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat...
Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, say-
ing, "Drink from it, all of you." (Matthew, 26:26-27; Mark 14:22-
                   23)

"How many loaves do you have?" he asked. "Go and see."

When they found out, they said, "Five—and two fish." Then Je-
sus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on
the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and
fifties. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up
to heaven, he [Jesus] gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then
he gave them to his disciples to set before the people. He also
divided the two fish among them all. They all ate and were sat-
isfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of bro-
ken pieces of bread and fish. The number of the men who
had eaten was five thousand. (Mark, 6:38-44)

He replied, "You give them something
                   to eat." They answered,
                   "We have only five loaves
                   of bread and two fish—

                   unless we go and buy
                   food for all this crowd."
