(About five thousand men were there.) But he said to his disci-
ples, "Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each." The
disciples did so, and everybody sat down. Taking the five
loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave
thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to
set before the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the
disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that
were left over. (Luke, 9:13-17)
When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the
table. And he said to them, "I have eagerly desired to eat this
Passover with you... After taking the cup, he gave thanks and
said, "Take this and divide it among you... And he took bread,
gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them..." (Luke,
22:14-19)
As they approached the village to which they were
going, Jesus acted as if he were going farther.
But they urged him strongly, "Stay with us,
for it is nearly evening; the day is almost
over." So he went in to stay with
them. When he was at the table
with them, he took bread,
gave thanks, broke it and
began to give it to them.
