Pleasant Words from the Gospel
when you lived in ignorance. But just as He Who called you is
holy, so be holy in all you do... (1 Peter, 1:14-15)
Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world,
to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.
Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they ac-
cuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and
glorify God on the day He visits us. (1 Peter, 2:11-12)
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put
aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light [spir-
itual armors]. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in
orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and de-
bauchery, not in dissension and jealousy... [Do] not think
about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature. (Ro-
mans, 13:12-14)
People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap
and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men
into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all
kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered
from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (1
Timothy, 6:9-10)
Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way
of truth into disrepute. In their greed these will exploit you
with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long
been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been
sleeping. (2 Peter, 2:2-3)
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in
which you used to live when you followed the ways of this
