[Jesus:] "Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his
child; children will rebel against their parents and have them
put to death. All men will hate you because of me [because you

follow me for the approval of God], but he who stands firm to
the end will be saved." (Matthew, 10:21-22; Mark, 13:12-13)

[Jesus:] "At that time many will turn away from the faith and
will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will
appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of
wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who
stands firm to the end will be saved." (Matthew, 24:10-13)

You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my
purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, suffer-

ings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconi-
um and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord res-
cued me from all of them. In fact, everyone who wants to live
a godly life... will be persecuted, while evil men and impostors
will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. (2
Timothy, 3:10-13)

Never be lacking in zeal... serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope,
patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. (Romans, 12:11-12)

Endure hardship with us like a good soldier [student, follower]
of Christ Jesus... Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will
give you insight into all this. This is my Gospel, for which I am
suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal.
But God's word is not chained. Therefore I endure everything

for the sake of the elect [servants chosen by God], that they too
may obtain the salvation... (2 Timothy, 2:3, 7-10)
