Pleasant Words from the Gospel

Then He [Jesus] called the crowd to him along with his disciples
and said: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself
[renounce the world]... and follow me. For whoever wants to save
his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me [for the ap-
proval of God] and for the Gospel will save it. What good is it for
a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a
man give in exchange for his soul? (Mark, 8:34-17; Luke 9:23-25)

For none of them needed anything, because everyone who had
land or houses would sell them and bring the money received for
the things sold and bring the money to the apostles to give to
                   those in need. (Acts, 4:34-35)

[Jesus:] "Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his

life for my sake [for the approval of God] will find it." (Matthew,
                                    10:39; Luke 17:33)

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge
you to live a life worthy of the calling

                                                you have received. (Ephesians, 4:1)

The man who loves his life will
lose it, while the man who
