turn away from your own flesh and blood?
Then your light will break forth like the
dawn, and your healing will quickly ap-
pear... (Isaiah, 58:7-8)
“Take home great wealth, a lot of cattle, sil-
ver, gold, bronze, iron, and a lot of clothing.
Divide up the goods captured from your ene-
mies with your brothers.” (Joshua, 22:8)
Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send
some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our
Lord...” Then all the people went away to eat and drink, to send por-
tions of food and to celebrate with great joy, because they now un-
derstood the words that had been made known to them. (Nehemiah,
8:10-12)
But all the evil men and troublemakers among David’s followers said,
“Because they did not go out with us, we will not share with them the
plunder we recovered. However, each man may take his wife and chil-
dren and go.” David replied, “No, my brothers, you must not do that
with what the Lord has given us. He has protected us and delivered
into our hands the raiding party that came against us. Who will lis-
ten to what you say? The share of the man who stayed with the sup-
plies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. All
will share alike.” David made this a statute and ordinance for Israel
from that day to this. (1. Samuel, 30:22-23, 25)
